Wi-Fi keeps dropping in the office

How to tell whether it's your device, the Wi-Fi, or the internet connection itself.

Last reviewed 20 August 2026

  1. 1Check whether anyone else is affected. One person = device; everyone = network.
  2. 2On your device, forget the network and reconnect once, entering the password fresh.
  3. 3Test on a wired connection if there's a socket nearby — if wired is fine, it's the Wi-Fi.
  4. 4Test on your phone using mobile data — if that's also slow for a website, it's the site, not you.
  5. 5Note where in the building it happens. Dead spots are a coverage problem we can fix with an access point, not a fault.

Useful detail for the ticket

  • Times of day it happens — mid-morning peaks usually mean capacity.
  • Whether it affects calls and Teams meetings specifically.
  • Whether it started after new equipment or a neighbouring business fit-out.
Please don't plug consumer routers or range extenders into the office network. They hand out conflicting addresses and cause faults that take hours to trace.

Still stuck?

Log it with the helpdesk and a real engineer will pick it up — or book a call if you'd rather talk it through.
