Maintenance details Cloudflare has announced a scheduled maintenance window for its Amsterdam (AMS) data centre. The work is set to take place on 29 October 2026, starting at 02:00 UTC and concluding by 06:00 UTC. During this four-hour period, hardware or software updates may require network interfaces at this location to be taken offline.
Potential for latency Amsterdam is a primary internet exchange point for Europe. When a data centre of this size undergoes maintenance, Cloudflare typically routes traffic to the next closest available site, such as London or Frankfurt.
For most businesses in the UK, this will not result in a service outage. However, because data must travel a longer physical distance to reach an alternative server, there may be a measurable increase in latency. Latency is the time it takes for data to travel from one point to another; in practical terms, this means website pages or cloud applications may take slightly longer to load for your staff or customers.
Private and Custom Network Interfaces The majority of small businesses use Cloudflare via the public internet. If this applies to you, no manual intervention is required.
However, some larger medium-sized enterprises use Private Network Interconnects (PNI) or Custom Network Interconnects (CNI). These are dedicated physical links between a company's own infrastructure and Cloudflare. If your business utilizes these specific connections in Amsterdam, you should confirm with your technical team that traffic will automatically fail over to a different geographical site. Cloudflare has stated that interfaces in the Amsterdam facility may become unavailable during the window.
