Microsoft to add PDF presentation mode for OneDrive on iPad

Microsoft is adding a dedicated presentation mode for PDF files within the OneDrive app for iPad. This feature locks the view to prevent accidental scrolling between pages during meetings.

What this means for your business

Employees who use iPads for mobile presentations will no longer need to export PDFs to third-party apps to ensure a stable viewing experience. Business owners should inform staff that this feature is expected in late 2026, though it will not be available on iPhone handsets.

Dedicated PDF viewing for iPad

Microsoft has announced a change to the OneDrive application for iOS, specifically targeting iPad users. A new 'Presentation' button will be added to the PDF viewer interface. This is designed to address a common issue where touch gestures accidentally trigger scrolling or page jumps while a user is showing a document to others.

When this mode is active, the app enters a view-only state. This restricts free scrolling, meaning the presenter must intentionally navigate between pages. This reduces the risk of losing one's place or displaying the wrong section of a document during a discussion.

Hardware limitations and availability

This feature is restricted to the iPad version of the OneDrive app. Microsoft has confirmed that it will not be available for the iPhone. This distinction is likely due to the iPad's role as a primary device for mobile presentations in business environments compared to the smaller screen of a telephone.

Users will be able to present directly from the file's location in the cloud. This removes the previous requirement to download the file or open it in a separate PDF reader application to gain a stable viewing interface.

Timeline for deployment

The current roadmap indicates a General Availability date of December 2026. This is a long-term projection, and Microsoft has not provided specific details regarding a preview or 'Insiders' roll-out phase before that time.

We do not currently know if this feature will support external displays via USB-C or AirPlay in a way that differs from standard screen mirroring. As the release date is over two years away, the specific interface design may change before it reaches UK businesses.
