Microsoft have issued an emergency patch for Internet Explorer to fix a vulnerability that could be exploited by cyber-attackers.  Without the patch, it is possible the browser could be used to gain access to the system and carry out malicious activity.  For example, hackers could create a website that abuses the browser’s flaw and through it install malware or gain control of a victim’s computer.

Anyone using Internet Explorer should download the update and apply it as soon as possible.  Users should also consider changing to a more modern internet browser such as Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.  In general, prompts for software and app updates should not be ignored as they often contain important security updates.  Making sure that automatic updates are turned on can help protect your systems.
